The Equinor equation
Toast and times tables are on the menu at King Solomon Academy, where Equinor's Paddington office run a successful maths breakfast club each Wednesday.
Colleagues from Equinor are celebrating their first term running a weekly maths breakfast club for Year 4 pupils at King Solomon Academy. To fit the role around their careers, which involve international travel, the team of five take it in turns to run the club. Each week they tackle a new skill – reinforcing classroom learning, building confidence and encouraging the children to have fun with numbers.“The volunteers help us to understand numbers. Their support makes maths easier, as they show us exactly what we need to do” (Azad and Pranjal, Year 4 pupils).
By running the club before school starts, the children do not miss lessons and the volunteers’ working day is not impacted. Based on the success of the first term, the breakfast club will welcome more children in 2019.
“It's been really great for these children to have a space where they are very well supported and they can feel successful. We're looking forward to continuing these sessions to further build on the key skills they have practised this term” (Mr Howlett, King Solomon Academy, Primary Maths Lead).
