Praed Street Highway Works
As Paddington Square’s public realm nears completion a series of highway works are set to start in Paddington. There are two main sections where work will be carried out, at the front of Paddington Square, and at the front of the Hilton London Paddington hotel. These will be carried out in phases, across May and June 2024.
Paddington Square frontage:
Mace, the principal contractor at Paddington Square will be carrying out the following work.
- From Friday 3 May at 9pm to Monday 6 May at 5am, the road outside Paddington Square will be fully closed for resurfacing works. Diversions for buses will be in place.
- From Tuesday 7 May at 9pm to Wednesday 8 May at 6am there will be temporary traffic signals in operation, to facilitate line marking and further resurfacing.
- From Wednesday 8 May at 9pm to Thursday 9 May at 6am there will be temporary traffic signals in operation, to facilitate line marking and further resurfacing.
If the works cannot be completed in time, a further slot of Friday 10 May at 9pm to Monday 13 May at 5am has been set aside as a back-up road closure.

Bus Diversions
Routes 7, 16, 23, 27, 36, 205, N7, N27, N205 towards Oxford Circus, Brent Park, Hammersmith, Chalk Farm and New Cross Gate, Bow Church and Leyton
From Eastbourne Terrace at Craven Road buses will be diverted via right Craven Road, left Westbourne Terrace, left Sussex Gardens, left Norfolk Place and right Praed Street to line of route.
Routes 7, 23, 27, 36, 205, N7, N27, N205 towards East Acton, Westbourne Park, Hammersmith, Queens Park, Paddington and Northholt
From Sussex Gardens at Norfolk Place buses will be diverted via ahead Sussex Gardens, right Spring Street and ahead Eastbourne Terrace to line of route.
Hilton London Paddington Hotel frontage:
Westminster Council has commissioned FM Conway to replace and widen the footway on the northern side of Praed Street, between Eastbourne Terrace and the entrance to Paddington station nearest London Street. This will also include new cycle parking.
- Work will start on Friday 10 May and are expected to be completed by Friday 14 June.
- Working hours will be from 8am to 6pm each day.
- Pedestrian access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the works.
- Barriers will be in place to protect pedestrians.
- Following the footway works, this section will be resurfaced, with the exact date to be confirmed in June.
