It’s a wrap! PiP artwork is unveiled on Heathrow Pods
On Friday 19 January 2024, Heathrow unveiled three freshly wrapped pods with a brand-new design created by PiP students.
Last year, The Paddington Partnership facilitated a series of training events with staff from Heathrow Express who supported students from Pursuing Independent Paths (PiP), to navigate their way from Paddington station to Heathrow Airport.
Pursuing Independent Paths (PiP) supports adults with learning disabilities and autism to be independent and make their own choices. With the support of Heathrow Express, PiP students were given a user-friendly and accessible tour of the airport. The events were a brilliant way for PiP students to build practical skills and build their confidence to travel independently.
During the tour, PiP students took a ride on the Heathrow pods, which transfer to Terminal 5 in a driverless electric vehicle in six minutes. PiP then entered a competition to design new artwork for the pods.
PiP students Pamela and Duua were crowned the winners, and their designs are now proudly displayed on the pods. PiP student Pamela was thrilled to hear her design had won and was over the moon to see her design in real life.
Pamela, PiP student & competition winner said:
“I am so happy to be the winner of the Pod design and to be invited back to see it being showcased. The trip to the airport was fantastic and gave me the confidence to make changes in my life. I now have a job at Paddington Central as a welcome host.”
The PiP designs are colourful and add so much joy to travellers visiting Heathrow. Look out for even more designs popping up at Heathrow very soon!
