NHS Floating Tea Parties Return to Paddington this Summer
Back by popular demand, Paddington employees are being called upon once again to volunteer as boat captains and host NHS floating tea parties this summer.
To help celebrate the NHS 70th Birthday in 2018; staff and volunteers from Imperial College hospitals were invited on board GoBoats for hour long trips on the canal. The guests were served tea and cake by their hosts as they cruised along the Little Venice and Grand Union canal. The parties formed part of the Big7Tea – a fundraising campaign to encourage friends and family to raise a cuppa to the NHS.
This year the hospitals’ volunteers are being invited back as part of National Volunteers Week. Established in the 1980’s, the annual campaign is organised by the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) to recognise the contribution made by volunteers. This year’s theme is ‘time to celebrate'. What better excuse to host parties in Paddington and toast the good work of volunteers with cups of tea?
Hospital volunteers fulfil many essential roles; including serving meals on wards, welcoming patients and their families and directing them to departments, running cafes and shops and fundraising for the Imperial Health Charity. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise their contribution and say thank you.
We are calling on our Paddington Partnership subscriber companies to volunteer for the NHS volunteers. Fleets of four boats at a time will set sail throughout the day, with two volunteers required per boat. If you would like to sign up as a Boat Captain or Captain’s Mate, or you would like to find out more about becoming a hospital volunteer; please don’t hesitate to contact Emily, the Community Programme Manager for more details.
