Merchant Square host medley of magical musical performances
Paddington’s pocket park in Merchant Square will be the site of a special free lunchtime Christmas concert on Wednesday 8 December, as part of Music in Hospitals & Care #BacktoLive series.
Music in Hospitals & Care work with professional musicians to bring live music to children and adults living with serious illnesses, dementia and mental health problems across the UK. Each year they support 100,000 people. Like many organisations the charity has had to rely on Zoom and Teams to share the healing power of music over the past 18 months. The #BacktoLive programme celebrates being able to enjoy music together again.
On 8 December, Music in Hospitals and Merchant Square are inviting key workers, hospital patients, local residents and Paddington employees to take some time out over lunch and enjoy an hour of feel-good music.
Proceedings will kick off at 1pm with Paul Kerr and the Boneshaker Band treating you to a smorgasbord of musical delights. The group are used to playing to nightclub goers and festival audiences, so are guaranteed to get you on your feet and dancing. Paul was a regular visitor to the Critical Care Unit at St Mary’s in Paddington before the pandemic and since 2005 has shared over 1200 musical experiences with Music in Hospitals beneficiaries.
Next to take to the mic will be the Phoebe Gorry Jazz Trio – a group of world class jazz musicians. Phoebe’s powerful voice will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up; so sit back, relax and enjoy. Then it’s over to you the audience for a feel good festive singalong. Song sheets will be provided so there is no excuse not to join in.
The musical hour is completely free but if you would like to make a donation to help fund the charities continued work, including at St Mary’s Paddington, you can text MUSIC 5 to 70470 to donate £5 (texts cost £5 plus one standard rate message). Collection buckets will also be available on the day of the concert or you can donate online here.
