M&S Colleagues Challenged to Show their Creative Side
Colleagues from Marks & Spencer have set the bar high for future volunteer teams in the Community Programme’s first team challenge event at Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School.
On Thursday 2 May, 20 colleagues spent the day transforming the school grounds - installing a living wall at the front entrance, sanding and painting benches which had been brown with bright new designs, decluttering the crowded shed and running a craft workshop for some of the pupils.
Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School is a special school for pupils aged 4 – 19 years of age with severe learning difficulties. During the afternoon a small group of volunteers supported the students to make hanging mobiles from a collection of recycled items; including milk bottle lids, blank CDs, yogurt pots and ribbon.
The mobiles have been hung in the school garden where they catch the light – creating a decorative feature whilst distracting the birds from eating the plants being grown in the raised beds.
"Thank you so much to everyone from M&S for their hard work. The colorful benches look great and our living wall has really spruced up the school entrance. The children loved meeting everyone and working on the outdoor mobiles together. We really love meeting new people at QEII and seeing all the hard work the volunteers put in made us feel very special indeed." Pamela Murphy, Head of School.
