Fleming Centre Design Exhibition
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) are running a design competition for the Fleming Centre, a new research facility at St Mary’s Hospital – bringing together expertise and skills to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The Fleming Centre is planned for the current site of the Bays Buildings, which run along the canalside, directly accessed from South Wharf Road. RIBA has shortlisted five teams of architects to develop proposals, which will be on display at the exhibition for comment and feedback.
The design exhibition will open:
- Tuesday 26 November 12pm to 7pm
- Wednesday 27 November 11am to 7pm
- Thursday 28 November 11m to 7pm
The Fleming Centre will include an interactive exhibition space, education centre, events programme, café, research facilities and offices. The centre will provide a space to bring together researchers, policymakers, clinicians, behavioural experts, commercial partners and the public to combine their shared networks, expertise and skills in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
The ambition is to open the centre in 2028 to help mark the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of the first antibiotic, penicillin, by Sir Alexander Fleming at St Mary’s Hospital - a breakthrough that revolutionised healthcare around the world.
