The lion dance is one of the most important traditions at Chinese New Year. It is performed to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits for the upcoming year.
On Wednesday 29 January, between 12:30 – 13:00, celebrate Chinese New Year with a traditional lion dance at Merchant Square. Get ready for our skilled lion dancers wave through the square.

This Chinese New Year, share your hopes, dreams, and resolutions for the year ahead with our Wishing Wall at Merchant Square. Located in the peaceful Floating Pocket Park, we’re inviting you to be part of a tradition that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful.
Pick up your wishing tags at the reception of 5 Merchant Square. Write down your wishes or New Year’s resolutions and add them to the wall, creating a vibrant tapestry of hopes and dreams from our community.
Let’s celebrate the Chinese New Year together—with unity, positivity, and hope for the future. Add your wish to the Wishing Wall and be part of something truly special.
Lantern Festival 2025
This Chinese New Year, immerse yourself in a magical celebration at Merchant Square with Lantern Festival , a breath-taking event to celebrate the Lantern Festival on 12 February.
Join us by the canal as we celebrate the beauty of new beginnings, hope, and unity. Write your heartfelt wishes, dreams, or messages of gratitude on a floating lantern, then release it onto the water, creating a stunning display of glowing lights reflecting across the surface.
