Celebrating World Book Day 2025
M&S kicked the week off, visiting a local primary school to host a World Book Day craft workshop. All 200 pupils took part, designing bookmarks and decorating masks in the shape of characters from Alice in Wonderland such as the Cheshire Cat.
M&S volunteers also helped pupils to write their own storybook, igniting pupil’s imagination. The young authors crafted a variety of stories that included fast-paced action, magical creatures and one pupil based their story on their dream of one day becoming Prime Minister.

Tapestry colleagues dressed for the occasion as Mary Poppins, Wendo from Where’s Wally and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz to visit Wilberforce Primary School. Volunteers spent the morning reading 1-1 and in small groups with pupils in Nursery and Reception and Year 1 and 2 (ages 4-6). Volunteers helped pupils to practice phonics, sounding out words, expand their vocabulary and build their confidence to read out loud.
The morning was a brilliant opportunity to find out pupil’s favourite books and how they have been celebrating World Book Day throughout the week.

Creative volunteers Kingfisher painted a new literary mural at St Peter’s Primary School inspired by the Little People, Big Dreams book series. The mural features inspirational figures such as David Attenborough, Marcus Rashford and Malala Yousafzai. The Little People, Big Dreams mural is a much-loved series at St Peter’s and pupils in year 5 & 6 have chosen a varied selection of figures to represent the diversity at St Peter’s and the community that the school supports.
The team put a huge amount of time and detail in the project – thank you Kingfisher!
