Action Packed Autumn for Volunteering in Paddington
Vodafone at QEII Jubilee School
Twenty colleagues from Vodafone spent Friday 18 October supporting Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School. The team were busy throughout the day completing several important practical tasks; including redecorating a corridor, gardening and running a fun sensory activity for some of the school’s students. Vodafone also kindly donated new plants and fencing panels for the school playground.
Kingfisher and Paddington Central at Blomfield Road
Meanwhile colleagues from Kingfisher and Paddington Central were hard at work on Tuesday 29 October. The team of volunteers joined forces to support Edward Wilson Primary with their new school garden.
The team of four worked alongside seven Marble Arch BID volunteers; removing topsoil, creating a sensory bed and wildflower meadow. An array of plants, seeds and bulbs were planted, all designed to add colour and attract wildlife to the canalside space. The garden will be used to teach students about the environment and provide an opportunity for them to grow their own vegetables.
Laing O’ Rourke’s Big Build at St Mary Magdalene
Thursday 31 October saw five Laing O’ Rourke colleagues lead a construction workshop at St Mary Magdalene. The morning workshop was run as part of Honor Goodsite’s Big Build 2019 Competition. The competition encourages firms to engage with their local communities to design, build and decorate a famous structure out of recycled material. The twenty Year 6 students decided to construct their own version of the Royal Albert Hall, after being inspired by a recent school trip. Lots of fun was had and the finished result was a fantastic replica.
M&S Halloween party at the Beethoven Party:
To end the month, Marks & Spencer returned to the Beethoven Centre to host another spooktacular Halloween Party after the success of last years event. The seven colleagues were kept busy running exciting Halloween themed activities for 20 local children and their families. Activities included pumpkin carving, face painting, apple bobbing and a frighteningly fun game of musical statues.
